This is an incredibly soft and luxurious rayon blend sweater knit, a medium-light sweater weight that has a plain knit stitch on the face and purl on the reverse. The color is a slightly variegated steel gray (PANTONE 18-0503 is close, but this fabric has a subtle purple undertone). It has some substance and is opaque, not at all dense or heavy, and has a beautiful, soft drape. With about 50% widthwise stretch and 25% lengthwise it also has excellent recovery. Absolutely perfect for tops, tunics, sweaters, sweater dress, comfy and elegant separates, scarf, etc. Hand or machine wash and lay flat to dry, but always test first. THE FLAW: The last photo shows that there are areas where the dye is a bit lighter, but we tested a piece in the washer and dryer (it washes beautifully and is SO soft, by the way), and the lighter streaks seem to have evened out and disappeared. The photo exaggerates the flaw---in real life you have to look REALLY hard to see that there's anything amiss.
