Metallic Jersey

This jersey has the elegance of a metallic with the comfort of knit. The metallic threads give just enough sparkle; the stretch of the jersey is easy to wear and to sew. You'll love any garment made from this fabric, whether dressy or casual!

Pretreatment:

Machine wash, cold water, tumble dry. No bleach or fabric softeners, please!

Needles and Thread:

A jersey/ballpoint needle, size 11/75, is recommend for construction. You may choose to use a metafil needle; this needle has a specifically designed scarf suitable for the metallic thread in this fabric. Use cotton-covered polyester or all polyester thread for construction.

Seams, Seam Finishes, and Hems:

Use a 2.0 length, 1.5 width zigzag stitch for construction. If you have a serger, use a 3 thread balanced stitch for seams. Hems can be topstitched with a twin needle (jersey/ballpoint), or a coverstitch. As an alternative, you can use the rolled hem on your serger with a metallic wooly nylon in the lower looper. Seams do not require finishes; this fabric does not ravel.

Interfacing:

Lightweight fusible tricot interfacing is recommended.

Pattern Suggestions:

Tees, tanks, dresses, skirts, cardigans, evening wear, cowls, capelets, anything with draped details.

Creative Possibilities:

This fabric pairs well with satin in a complimentary color. Try making a simple tank from the jersey, and a cowl collar from bias cut satin. You'll be the belle of the ball!

Additional Tips:

Use the synthetic setting on your iron, and use a press cloth. If your skin is sensitive, line the garment with power mesh or tricot.
