Doubleknit Rayon Blend

If you're a knit-lover, and are looking for an easy care fabric, look no further. This fabric is comfortable, requires little fuss, and looks rich and elegant. It's easy to sew, too!

Pretreatment:

Machine wash, cold water, lay flat to dry. No bleach.

Needles and Thread:

Use jersey or stretch machine needles, size 75, for most construction. For hems, choose a stretch twin needle, size 4.0/75 or 2.5./75 Cotton covered polyester or all polyester thread is the best choice for construction. Rayon or cotton embroidery thread can be used for embellishment.

Seams, Seam Finishes, and Hems:

For a conventional machine, use a 2.5 length, 1.5 width zigzag stitch for construction. For a serger, a 3-thread balanced stitch is a good choice. Seams do not require finishes, as the fabric does not ravel. For hems, use a stretch twin needle or a coverstitch hem, or use the same zigzag stitch used in construction for a top-stitched hem. Double-fold narrow hems are not recommended.

Interfacing:

For areas that require interfacing, choose the lightest weight possible knit fusible interfacing. I like So-Sheer or Touch of Gold. Be sure to cut the interfacing so the stretch matches the stretch of the fabric.

Pattern Suggestions:

Tees, tanks, polo shirts, cardigan, unstructured jacket, dresses, loose-fitting pants, capes, ponchos, tunics, and skirts.

Creative possibilities:

This fabric can be machine embroidered if you choose a small, not-too-dense design. Experiment with a scrap for best results. Placement is key to the success of this creative change; position your embroidery where the garment will receive minimal stretch during wear. A good position would be near the shoulder or close to the hem. Tone-on-tone designs would be elegant in this luscious knit!

Additional Tips:

Use a gentle touch with the iron, and a medium heat setting. A press cloth will protect your fabric while pressing seams in this fabric.
