Kathryn's Garments: Vogue 1248 Shirt and Skirt Shirtmaking Buttoning Down the Basics
I love the subtle statement of this sleeveless shirt and skirt. The skirt has ties that are really sleeves, complete with a blouse sleeve placket, cuffs and working buttons and buttonholes. The shirt is made from blue oxford cloth shirting fabric and the skirt is made from white shirting cotton and is lined with cotton batiste. I used medium weight sew-in Siri interfacing for the shirt collar and stand. There is no interfacing in the front of the shirt. Instead the front edge folds back on itself twice. All of the seams on the shirt are flat felled. I used washed, white cotton sheeting as a sew in woven interfacing for the waistband of the skirt. The skirt is hemmed using the Steam a Seam technique outlined in this tutorial. There is an invisible zipper in the back of the skirt. The ‘sleeves' are long enough to wear in a bow or knot and leave hanging down.
