French broad stripe wool/cotton doubleweave coating

From French designer deadstock, this is a wonderful wool and cotton doubleweave, a heavy suiting or coating weight with a dry hand and a firm drape. The large-scale stripe pattern has 11-12" wide bands of color running vertically in a beautiful, mellow palette of colors. The weave has two layers with a beautiful, subtle texture on the face and a bolder weave with thick, soft yarns on the reverse in winter white (colored crossthreads show through from the face). The layers are interwoven and cannot be separated. Both sides have a very handsome selvage (see 8th image), offering so many possibilities for accenting hems, pockets, plackets, etc. Perfect for a blanket coat, firm kimono-style jacket, warm suiting, etc. Dry cleaning recommended.
